🔴 OVERNIGHT BREAKING: Severe Weather, Flash Flooding, and Power Disruptions Impact Midwest

📍 Chicago, Illinois | 3:41 AM CDT — Overnight storms exploded in intensity across parts of the Midwest, bringing torrential rain, high winds, and dangerous flash flooding to several metro areas, including parts of northeastern Illinois, northern Indiana, and southern Wisconsin.

At 1:22 AM CDT, the TNW Weather Operations Center issued a Severe Flood Alert for Aurora, Illinois, after a stalled storm cell dumped 3–5 inches of rain within a 2-hour window. Urban and tollway flooding was confirmed, with multiple ramps under water along I-88 and Route 31, especially near Indian Trail Road.

🌩️ Radar scans from TNWweather.com showed persistent training thunderstorms, with lightning strikes exceeding 5,000 per hour over Kane and DuPage Counties.

Power Outages Surge Across Chicago Suburbs

According to TNW Power Tracker, over 47,000 customers in the western and northwestern Chicago suburbs were without electricity by 2:30 AM CDT, with the hardest-hit areas being Naperville, Batavia, and Elgin. Utility crews are working around the clock, but flooding has delayed access in multiple locations.

💬 TNW General Manager Todd Nardone stated from the Weather Operations Command Center in Springfield:
"These overnight events highlight the increasing frequency of high-intensity rain events in urban corridors. Our meteorological team remains on full alert as flash flooding remains a threat through sunrise.
"

🚧 Public Works and Emergency Response Activated

In Aurora, the city’s Public Works Department initiated emergency flood mitigation protocols shortly after 1:30 AM, deploying barricades and detour signs. The Aurora Emergency Management Agency dispatched volunteers to support flooded neighborhoods and began conducting welfare checks.

📡 Next Weather Threats: More Rain Ahead

⚠️ A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for much of the Chicago metro through 12 PM CDT Monday, with additional rainfall expected between 6 AM and 10 AM. The TNW Weather Team is closely tracking a secondary low-pressure system moving in from Iowa that may regenerate storms during the morning commute.
