Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Garvin, Murray and Pontotoc Counties Through 10:45 PM

Sulphur, Oklahoma — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Garvin, Murray and Pontotoc counties in southern Oklahoma through 10:45 PM CT Monday night.
What is happening: The National Weather Service in Norman issued the warning at 9:56 PM CT after radar picked up a severe thunderstorm near Sulphur. The storm is moving northeast at about 35 miles per hour and is expected to hold together as it crosses east-central Garvin County, northeastern Murray County and southwestern Pontotoc County. Communities in the path include Ada, Sulphur, Byng, Roff, Fitzhugh, Hickory, Fittstown, Scullin and the Lake of the Arbuckles area.
Local impacts: The main threat is damaging straight-line wind, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Winds that strong can bring down tree limbs, damage roofs and siding, and knock out power in spots. Hail up to three-quarters of an inch is also possible. A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area, so conditions are favorable for severe storms to keep developing.
What to do:
- Move inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
- Stay off the roads while the storm passes and never drive through flooded roadways.
- Keep your phone charged and nearby so you can get updates if the warning changes.
- Report downed power lines to your utility and stay well clear of them.
