Ardmore, Oklahoma — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Carter, Johnston, Marshall, Murray and Pontotoc counties in southern Oklahoma through 10:45 PM CT Monday night.

What is happening: The National Weather Service in Norman issued the warning at 9:59 PM CT as a line of severe thunderstorms stretched from near Lake of the Arbuckles to near Lake Murray. The line is moving northeast at about 40 miles per hour and is tracking across southeastern Carter County, southeastern Murray County, southeastern Pontotoc County, northern Marshall County and Johnston County. Towns in the path include Ardmore, Madill, Tishomingo, Dickson, Mannsville, Ravia, Mill Creek, Milburn, Dougherty, Gene Autry, Pontotoc, Reagan, Connerville, Russett and Jesse, along with the Lake Murray and northeastern Lake Texoma areas.

Local impacts: The main threat is damaging wind, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Winds that strong can damage roofs and siding, snap tree limbs and knock out power. A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area, so stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

What to do:

- Move inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

- Stay off the roads while the line passes and never drive through flooded roadways.

- Keep your phone charged and nearby so you can get updates if the warning changes.

- Report downed power lines to your utility and stay well clear of them.
