Flash Flood Warning for Broward County Through 10:45 PM

Breaking news alert for flash flood warning in Broward County, Florida.

Broward County, Florida — The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Flash Flood Warning for central Broward County in southeastern Florida through 10:45 PM EST, as heavy thunderstorms keep dropping rain over ground that is already soaked.

What is happening:

At 8:52 PM EST, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across central Broward County. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have already fallen, and another 1 to 3 inches are possible before the rain lets up. Flash flooding is happening now or is expected to begin shortly in the warned area.

Local impacts:

Flash flooding can hit small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, underpasses, and other low-lying spots with poor drainage. Places in the path of the flooding include Plantation, Sunrise, Tamarac, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale, the Sawgrass Mills Mall area, Pine Island Ridge, and Markham Park.

What to do:

Turn around, do not drown. Never drive onto a flooded road — most flood deaths happen in vehicles, and it takes only a small amount of moving water to sweep a car away. Stay aware of rising water around you, and if you see water rising, get to higher ground immediately. Report flooding you see to local emergency services when you can do so safely.
